Want to make a Parisian inspired treat for your kid to enjoy while they play with their Coquet Porcelain Tea Set? Here’s how to make French Macarons for them in 10 simple steps!

  •    2/3 cup sliced blanched almonds (71 grams)

  •    1 cup confectioners' sugar (117 grams)

  •    2 large egg whites

  •    Food coloring and flavorings

  •    1/4 cup granulated sugar (53 grams)

  •    Jam or another filling

  1.  Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

  2.  Place almonds in a food processor for about 1 minute. Add confectioners' sugar and process for another minute.

  3.  Pass the mixture through a fine-mesh sieve. If any solids remain on the sieve, put them in the food processor again.

  4.  Whisk egg whites and granulated sugar by hand to combine and beat on medium speed for about 15 minutes.

  5.  The beaten egg whites will hold stiff, glossy peaks when you lift the whisk out of the bowl. Add flavoring and food coloring, and beat for  30 seconds.

  6.  Add the dry ingredients all at once. Fold with a spatula from the bottom of bowl upward, then press the flat side of spatula firmly through the middle of the mixture. Repeat 35 to 40 complete strokes.

  7.  Transfer the batter to a pastry bag and secure the top. Dab some batter remaining in bowl onto corners of 2 heavy baking sheets; line with parchment.

  8.  Pipe the batter into 3/4-inch circles with 1-inch spaces in between each other, then swirl tip off to one side. Tap sheets firmly against counter 2 or 3 times to release air bubbles.

  9.  Bake 1 sheet at a time, rotating halfway through, until risen and just set, 13 minutes.

  10.  Let cool to pipe or spread filling on flat sides of half of the cookies; top with remaining half. Finally, wrap the macarons in plastic and refrigerate.
